End of the line for Old Depot Railroad Museum

The Old Depot Railroad Museum in Dassel is on track to go to auction in September. Owner Howard Page has amassed such a vast collection of railroad memorabilia that the auctioneer is predicting a crowd of several hundred bidders. Until then, the museum will be open to visitors through Labor Day. Read more about the museum in the Aug. 26 Independent Review, or visit the museum. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day; admission is $2.50 for adults and $1 for children younger than 12. The auction will be Sept. 16-19 at the museum on U.S. Highway 12 in Dassel.

The cost to educate students, maintain the building they learn in and pay administrators varies dramatically between Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City’s two elementary schools.

ACGC School Board members compared the costs to operate North Elementary School in Atwater and South Elementary in Cosmos.  Both schools serve kindergarten through fourth grade students, with 237 students enrolled last year at North and 83 enrolled at South.

A.B.A.T.E. of Minnesota (American Bikers for Awareness, Training and Education) will have its 22nd annual motorcycle rally Friday through Monday at the Meeker County Fairgrounds in Litchfield. The event is open to the public.

Among the many activities will be a memorial service, memorial run, mud olympics, bike games, bike show, chili contest, tattoo contest, fashion show, food court, vendors, and hay wagon rides, as well as a raffle.

For many students, aptitude tests and visits with professionals help guide the course of a career. For four local women, however, the summer held a hands-on career exploration of the health-care field at Lakeview Ranch in Darwin and Dassel.



Students at Eden Valley-Watkins, Litchfield and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High Schools have been feverishly working for the last month to perfect their 35-minute theatrical productions for the subsection One Act Play competition on Jan. 30.
