114 YEARS AGO: NEWS FROM THE ISSUE OF FEB. 25, 1894

The debate at the courthouse hall last night between the Litchfield and Willmar high schools was a grand success. The large hall was filled to overflowing and many were unable to gain admission. About thirty persons from Willmar were on hand, including Prof. Davis and most of his teachers. The subject was: Resolved that the United States should annex Canada. The Willmar club took the affirmative and the Litchfield club the negative. The Litchfield speakers were Jas. McIntyre, John O’Brien, Clarence Baum and William Maher. Judges were A. F. Forster of this city, C. E. Quvale of Willmar and S. M. Sivertson of Atwater. It is hardly necessary to remark that the audience was highly entertained and greatly pleased with the efforts on both sides. The Willmar visitors were taken to the G.A.R. Hall and entertained until their train arrived at 12:30 a.m. By that time the judges still had not determined a winner.
