Schools in the Litchfield School District will start two hours late Tuesday.

As a new legislative session begins, school districts across the state are wondering about the fate of state funding in coming years.
In an effort to avoid cash flow problems in March, April and May, the Department of Education will delay payments to hundreds of school districts across the state, probably on March 15, March 30 and April 15, to help the state pay its bills.

State education officials submitted Minnesota’s official application for President Obama’s Race to the Top initiative with overwhelming support from the state’s schools and districts.
The 1,000 page application is accompanied by memoranda of agreement signed by 300 school districts and 116 charter schools, representing over 93 percent of the students in the state. Because of the overwhelming support from local school districts, the state increased its grant request from $230 to $330 million.

Litchfield Middle School eighth-graders Natasha Stubeda and Lexi Barron assembled five winter survival kits for a Family, Community and Career Leaders of America project in an effort to prepare local drivers for the worst. More than 250 districts and charter schools have submitted a Race to the Top memorandum of agreement to the Minnesota Department of Education.
Litchfield, ACGC and Eden Valley-Watkins school districts all have announced their intention to participate in the application. School administrations, school boards, teachers and communities still have time to participate for President Obama’s education initiative. The deadline to submit the RTTT agreements to MDE is 4:30 p.m. today.
Eden Valley-Watkins High School was one of 10 schools in the state to receive the 2009 Minnesota Academic Excellence Foundation School Spotlight Award for academic excellence and student success as evidenced by their students’ achievements.
