Citizens for Education has set dates for community informational meetings regarding the Litchfield School District levy referendum May 19.
As the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City School Board explores possibilities for the superintendent position, it is mindful of what’s best for the students, staff and district.
The board discussed four proposals Tuesday for a new administrative structure as 15 teachers and parents sat in attendance and listened.
Litchfield School Board members will face Round 2 in budget cuts at Monday’s board meeting.
In a time when people are tightening the purse strings, businesses closing their doors and governmental entities facing billions in deficits, Litchfield School Board members are not sure they need a community survey to figure out why Litchfield’s levy failed.
The Litchfield School Board may act on the first round of budget cuts just weeks after the district received news it would enter statutory operating debt.
The annual truth-in-taxation hearing will be 7 p.m. Monday when district business manager Todd Swanson presents the 2009 tax levy.
As a special education teacher, Karla Rick understands the necessity of evaluation to ensure schools are best meeting their students’ needs.
Now, in a world measured by state standards and moving test targets, this concept is all the more important to providing a quality education, said the Litchfield School Board member.
Litchfield School Board member Brian Park likes to see things followed through. That’s one of the reasons he’s seeking re-election this fall, hoping to see positive results when it comes to the district’s operating levy referendum.
Elected to the board in 2004, Park pointed to the high school renovations as one of the board’s accomplishments during his four-year term. While the high school might not be the fanciest one out there, he said, it serves the community well and looks pretty good, he added.
Litchfield attorney John Mueller doesn’t profess to know everything about how a school board operates. But as a candidate for the Litchfield School Board, he would sure like to learn more.
“I want to get involved and I want to figure out what’s going on with public schools,” he said.
Litchfield School Board member Stacey Helstrom believes a strong school system is just one part of a healthy community. A spirit of collaboration also must be present.
“We all need to work together to make the Litchfield community as strong as it can be,” Helstrom said.
