Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Grove City, was named by Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher the only Republican member of the State Government Finance Conference Committee.
Conference Committees meet to work out the differences between House and Senate versions of omnibus bills. The conferees for the House are appointed by the Speaker of the House and conferees for the Senate are appointed by the Subcommittee on Committees.
Both House and Senate bill versions contain controversial provisions, including expansions in "domestic partner" benefits and legislative pay.
After a compromise is reached by House and Senate in conference committee and the report approved by both the House and Senate full bodies, the bill goes to the Governor for signing or veto. Governor Pawlenty has indicated there are some provisions that he would veto in both the original House and Senate bills.
