Dragons fall to unbeaten Orono

Aaron Solbrack threw two touchdown passes and Steve Hendrickson, right, ran for a score, but it wasn't nearly enough as Litchfield fell to Orono 48-20 Friday in a Wright County Conference football game at Litchfield High School field.

Litchfield's 20 points was more than Orono's defense had given up in its previous five games combined.

Solbrack led the Dragons, throwing for 70 yards and rushing for 108 yards. Devine caught two passes for 35 yards. 

Dominic Devine caught a 25-yard Solbrack pass — on fourth-and-7 — to tie the game at 8-8 with just less than three minutes to play in the first quarter. Orono responded to take 16-8 lead, but Litchfield answered right back again, this time on Hendrickson's touchdown run with 6:35 left in the first half.

Orono, 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the WCC, took control from there, scoring 24 consecutive points to build a 40-14 lead.

Orono quarterback Tyler Hartlein was 7-for-13 passing for 167 yards and also ran eight times for 82 yards. Spartans senior wide receiver Ricky Smale posted 150 yards receiving

Litchfield, 3-3 overall and in the WCC, plays its lone non-conference game against St. Paul Highland Park Oct. 10 at home.
