Celebrate the unofficial end of summer at Red Rooster Days in Dassel this weekend.
The 49th annual celebration will kick off with music at the Mushroom building at 6 p.m. Friday. Saturday is full of events, including a kickball tournament, waterball fight and bean bag toss competition.
Dassel Historical Society will have an open house and Fine Art Show Saturday at the Universal Laboratories building. A traveling exhibit from Landmark Center in St. Paul will arrive at 9 a.m.; John Carlsted, a 1953 graduate of Dassel High School, will speak at 10 a.m.; and a temporary exhibit, “On the Campaign Trail,” will open at 11 a.m.
The parade starts at 3 p.m. on Willis Street to William Avenue to Fifth Street. The Dassel Ambassadors Coronation is 7 p.m. in the Dassel-Cokato Performing Arts Center. It is followed by a street dance, featuring Crow River Band, on Atlantic Avenue West.
Sunday events include a community worship service, mini-rod tractor pull, brat feed, hymn sing and fireworks at Spring Lake Park at dusk.
Get up early Labor Day morning for the 8 a.m. 5-mile run and 1-mile run/walk at Dassel Ball Park. Minnesota’s largest chicken barbecue is from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door.
Also Monday is a performance by the Prairie Fiddlers and kids pedal tractor pull at 1 p.m.
