In honor of Minnesota’s 150th year of statehood, an 1850s-style camp meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at Windmill Park in Grove City.

This is the sixth “camp meeting” held around the state this summer.

Minnesota musicians and singers will present 19th century camp meeting and gospel songs on guitar, violin and flute. Jerry Seehusen, dressed in a 19th century suit, will give the sermon. Historian Steve Keillor, who wrote a history of Minnesota for the state sesquicentennial, will read letters from a soldier in the 1st Minnesota Regiment who died at Gettysburg.

People are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. In case of rain, the event will be in the picnic shelter at the park. An ice cream social will take place in the picnic shelter starting at 6:30 p.m. The ice cream is free, as is the camp meeting. Windmill Park is north of U.S. Highway 12 in Grove City.
