ACGC board still negotiating with superintendent candidate

Contract negotiations continue with Roger Rueckert to become the next
part-time, interim superintendent for the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City
School District. The School Board’s negotiating committee recently met
with Rueckert to discuss a contract for the 2008-09 school year with
options for two more years. The committee has a few things to clarify
and expects to have a contract proposal for the School Board to consider
at its April 28 meeting.

The district's one-year contract with Keith Redfield, the current
part-time, interim superintendent, ends June 30. Redfield respectfully
turned down the board’s request to continue in the position because of
the distance between the district and his home in Alexandria.

Redfield and Rueckert were two of three finalists in June 2007 when
School Board members were looking to replace retiring Superintendent Pam
Kyllingstad. School Board members re-interviewed Rueckert, a retired
superintendent, during their Feb. 25 meeting. Afterward, School Board
members directed the negotiating committee to work on a contract with
Rueckert that would have him work about three days a week.

Though he lives and last worked as a superintendent in southeastern
Minnesota, Rueckert is familiar with the ACGC area. He grew up in West
Central Minnesota and attended school in Grove City and Dassel. He has
worked as a teacher, principal and superintendent, most recently as
superintendent of the Zumbrota-Mazeppa School District near Rochester.
He retired June 30.
