It wasn’t on the official agenda, but lake pollution became a topic of discussion during a Meeker County Board of Commissioners meeting last week.
Commissioner Dave Gabrielson, who lives near Lake Ripley, cited the availability of an aerial survey that can accurately pinpoint areas in a lake where pollution is evident. Cost of the survey is about $4,000.
Gabrielson, with the support of other commissioners, asked County Administrator Paul Virnig to set up a meeting to involve county officials, representatives of the city of Litchfield and the Lake Ripley Improvement Association to talk about the possibility of an aerial survey of Lake Ripley.
The water area of Lake Ripley lies within the city limits while much of the shoreline is part of Litchfield Township and Meeker County.
A joint meeting would focus on cost-sharing if the survey is done.
