Aaron Imholte said he will not run against state Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Grove City, for the Minnesota House 18B seat.

Imholte, 21, said Friday that after attending the Meeker County DFL Convention March 1, he decided he was not interested in running for the party. Imholte spoke briefly at the convention since he was entertaining the idea of running.

“If anything I became a registered independent after (the convention),” he said.

Imholte said he is disappointed in the partisanship in politics at the state and national levels from both parties. He added that he didn’t think he could run against Urdahl, whom he considers a friend.

A broadcaster for KLFD Radio, Imholte believes he serves the political world best as “jester,” critical of both parties. By attending the convention, he said he wanted to see how the process worked if he ever explored a run in politics.

“And I saw how it worked and I didn’t think it worked for me,” he said.
