The U.S. Marshals Service arrested a fugitive wanted for homicide and arson Friday morning in Litchfield.

Eight U.S. Marshals, assisted by the Litchfield Police Department and Meeker County Sheriff’s Department, executed a warrant for Enrique Arujo Aguirre, 32, of Litchfield, around 8 a.m. Friday. The warrant was out of San Diego, Calif.

The arrest was made near Davis Avenue and Weisel Street in the Litchfield Trailer Park. Litchfield Police Chief Pat Fank said Aguirre was arrested without incident.

Aguirre is wanted for homicide by the San Diego Police Department for allegedly murdering his roommate with a hammer and setting the body on fire, according to a Wanted poster from the U.S. Marshals Service. The incident occurred in 2003, according to a release by Sheriff Mike Hirman.

Aguirre is being held in the Meeker County Jail pending extradition to California.

Fank said the U.S. Marshals Service contacted the department yesterday, having received several tips about Aguirre being in the area. It is unknown how long Aguirre has been in Litchfield, Fank said.
