Standoff leads to arrest

A 27-year-old Litchfield man was arrested Tuesday after barricading himself in a residence with a shotgun.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Department were issuing a warrant for Thomas Warren Pitts’ arrest around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at 22244 640th Avenue, Litchfield, when Pitts barricaded himself in the house with a 20-gauge shotgun, according to a Meeker County Sheriff’s Department release. Pitts was wanted on a felony warrant for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender in the state of Minnesota.

After some negotiation, Pitts surrendered without incident and was taken into custody, the release stated.

Pitts was charged Wednesday in Meeker County District Court with felon being in possession of weapon and a second degree assault for pointing the shotgun at a deputy. He was originally charged Feb. 12 with failure to register as a sex offender for two prior felony sex conviction in Wisconsin, according to the Meeker County Sheriff's Department.

He is currently being held in Meeker County Jail on $100,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 26.
