Growing up in a big family, standing out may not always be the easiest thing. But baby Kyler Steven McDonald has a distinction none of his siblings can boast.

Born to Jason and Marcy McDonald of Kingston, Kyler was Meeker County Memorial Hospital’s first baby of 2008 when he was welcomed into the world at 2:13 p.m. Jan. 3.

Marcy’s due date was Dec. 28, but when Kyler didn’t come over the New Year holiday, her doctor decided to induce. When Marcy was admitted the evening of Jan. 2, the couple knew a New Year’s baby had not been born yet.

“(We were) a little surprised, especially being the third (of January),” Jason said.

Kyler is the McDonald’s eighth child. At home, he is joined by Gina, 10, Vanessa, 9, Drew, 7, Blake, 5, Cameron, 4, and Braden, 2. Their son, Dwight, died in infancy.
