Like a soft summer breeze, the first hint of the possible development of wind power towers in Meeker County wafted through the County Board chambers Tuesday.
Two landowners in Danielson Township contacted County Planning and Zoning Officer John Boe’s office asking for basic information about regulations for this type of development, Boe said.
With this in mind, a group of Planning and Zoning Commission members along with several county commissioners will inspect a wind tower development at Bingham Lake in southwestern Minnesota on June 20.
The possible development of wind power towers is in the early stages and might involve about 10 towers, Boe said.
Typical wind towers stand about 250 feet tall from ground to the rotor hub, with the blades adding another 100 feet or so in height.
The area being considered for tower sites is near where a 69 volt electrical line passes.
