Meyer, who ran for School Board in November, will fill the position held by Dave Ruhland, who resigned from the board in April after purchasing a home in another school district, according to EV-W Superintendent Larry Peterson. EV-W board resignation leaves vacancyApril 24, 2008 - 10:36am — Kristin HoltzThe Eden Valley-Watkins School Board will be filling an open seat after board member Dave Ruhland handed in his letter of resignation. EV-W Superintendent Larry Peterson said Ruhland's resignation came after he recently purchased a new house outside of the school district boundaries. Since he will no longer be living within the EV-W district, he resigned. EV-W Knowledge Bowl team heads to stateApril 16, 2008 - 12:18pm — Kristin HoltzThe Eden Valley-Watkins Knowledge Bowl team will make an appearance at the state tournament Thursday and Friday at Cragun’s Conference Center in Brainerd. The team of Simon Kern, Rheanne Zimmerman, Drew Stommes and Alexa Bulau placed second in Class A at the regional competition March 31 at Celebration Church in Sartell. The top two teams in each section advance to state. Class AA teams earning state berths were St. Cloud Tech, Sauk Rapids-Rice and Sartell. Storm forces area schools to closeApril 11, 2008 - 5:55am — Brent SchachererThe storm that covered much of the state in another blanket snow Thursday and this morning forced area schools to call off classes Friday. Litchfield, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Eden Valley-Watkins and Kimball schools all will be closed today. Litchfield Early Childhood program also cancelled preschool screenings for 8:20 and 10:20 a.m. Parents with screenings later than that were urged to check the weather before venturing to the screening. Crackerjack Preschool in Litchfield announced it would have no morning preschool classes. EV-W School Board cuts staff, reworks music programMarch 31, 2008 - 2:14pm — Kristin HoltzThe Eden Valley-Watkins School Board approved $111,000 in cuts last week in anticipation of a 2008-09 budget shortfall. Superintendent Larry Peterson said March 25 the board made the cuts through attrition, a restructure of the district’s music program and not filling open positions. The board will fill two elementary retirements with younger teachers and not fill a paraprofessional position. High school industrial technology teacher Tim Rice requested a one-year leave of absence, which also will go unfilled, Peterson said. EV-W keeps eye on district fundsMarch 4, 2008 - 1:20pm — Kristin HoltzEden Valley-Watkins School Board members received a mixed financial assessment at Monday’s board meeting. Superintendent Larry Peterson said Tuesday the board reviewed its revised 2007-08 school budget, which appears to have a $190,000 surplus. Unfortunately, the 2008-09 budget may be in the negative. “Next year, looks like we’re down $109,000,” Peterson said. Making learning funFebruary 25, 2008 - 4:40pm — Kristin HoltzCrime investigators have been called to the scene of a burglary where Mr. Smith recently came home to find someone robbing his apartment. Small blood-stained pieces of clothing have been taken back to the forensics lab. It appears the suspect cut himself on a broken glass door in haste to get away. The crime investigators use anti-serums to test the blood samples of four suspects, apprehended by police, as they try to match blood type with the guilty party. Meeker County Recorder Elaine Lenhard shows students Shelbie Walsh, Michaela Rohloff and Dylan Johanneck of Litchfield and Andy Ludwig of ACGC a book in which county mortgages were recorded in 1879. The four students were part of a group of 32 from Litchfield, ACGC and Eden Valley-Watkins schools to take part in the annual Boys and Girls County event sponsored by the Litchfield American Legion. The students visited various offices to learn about county government and jobs.
February 19, 2008 - 10:56am Eden Valley-Watkins seventh-grader Alexis Schoenecker tests blood droplets, acting like a crime scene investigator at the scene of a burglary, during an EV-W's EAGLE after-school session in January EV-W and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City are 21st Century Learning Centers. Both districts received grant dollars to establish after-school programming, aimed at opening up students' worlds outside the traditional academic setting.
