Authorities call in bomb squad after explosive device brought to Eden Valley City Hall

The Minneapolis Police Bomb Squad was called into the Eden Valley City Hall to secure an explosive device Tuesday morning.

The Eden Valley Police Department reported that someone brought an explosive device to the City Hall/Police Department building around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Department.


Greenleaf State Recreation Area committee to meet May 19

The next meeting of the Greenleaf State Recreation Area Citizens Advisory Committee is slated for 6 p.m., Monday, May 19, in the Meeker County Courthouse in Litchfield.

The focus of this meeting will be on projections for future regional demographic changes and desired future conditions and resource management in the recreation area.


Embracing Earth Day

When it comes to the saying, “Every little bit helps,” Meeker County officials hope residents will take it to heart and do their part in boosting recycling numbers.

In its most recent update of its Solid Waste Management Plan, Meeker County set a goal to recycle 33 percent of the county’s solid waste by the year 2012.

As Tuesday’s Earth Day approaches, it’s a good time for Meeker County residents to think about how to minimize what they throw away and look at ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.


Local projects survive governor's line item veto

Gov. Tim Pawlenty signed the Capital Investment Bill Monday, but not before using his line-item veto power to slice more than $200 million from the bill.

But, while Pawlenty trimmed the bill from $925 million to $717 million, two projects with significance to the Meeker County area survived the cut.


Bloodmobile visits Eden Valley, Litchfield

Eden Valley and Litchfield had bloodmobile visits recently, with 193 units of blood collected.

Eden Valley collected 81 units, exceeding its goal of 70 units, with two deferrals and six first-time donors. Litchfield set a goal of 75 units for its “O” draw on March 27 and wound up with 60 units collected, five deferrals and two first-time donors. The March 28 regular draw in Litchfield saw 52 units collected, three deferrals and three first-time donors.

The bloodmobile will visit Dassel, Watkins and Litchfield from May 27-30.


Greenleaf Recreation Area meeting rescheduled

The Greenleaf State Recreation Area citizens advisory committee will meet Monday, April  7, in the basement meeting room of Meeker County Courthouse.

The meeting, originally scheduled for Monday but postponed due to the late winter snowstorm that blew through the area, will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m.


Rice to perform vocal concert at Ostmark

Eden Valley-Watkins High school graduate Ryan Rice will be featured in a special vocal concert, “Songs of Travel” at 7 p.m. April 5 at Ostmark Lutheran Church, rural Watkins.
