George Saukkola, 81, of Kimball, died Sunday at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Theresa Morton, 74, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of Benson, died Friday at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Gladys Eckers, 85, of Litchfield, died Saturday at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with visitation one hour before the service.


Linda Anderson, 63

Linda Anderson, 63, of Litchfield, passed away Thursday at her home. Arrangements are pending with the Hantge Funeral Chapel in Darwin.


Agnes Archbold, 92

Agnes E. Archbold, 92, of Mankato, formerly of Litchfield, died Wednesday, May 7, at Sunrise Cottage in Mankato. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Chuch in Litchfield. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangments.


Francis Crusoe, 57

Francis "Fran" Crusoe, 57, of Eden Valley died Tuesday, May 6, at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Church of Our Lady in Manannah. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are with Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Kathleen Wherry, 58, of Wayzata, died unexpectedly Friday at her home. Mass of Chrisian burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Barthlolomew in Wayzata with visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the church.

Herman Wannow, 94, of Watertown, Minn. died Monday at the Elim Home in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.

Kathleen Graf, 67, of Lake Manuella, near Darwin, formerly of Hutchinson, passed away April 19 at her home in Ellsworth Township, Meeker County. A memorial service was held April 23 at the Cornerstone Church in Litchfield.

Margaret Johnson, 91, of Grove City, passed away April 26, 2008 at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Paynesville Lutheran Church

Sherman Robbs, 66, died April 12 at his home in Kansas City, Mo. In accordance with his final wishes there was no funeral. Final interment will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Take a (grand)parent to school

Meeker County Sheriff's Department dispatcher Mary Nagel told students about how the dispatch center works when people dial 9-1-1 at the School of St. Philip's "Take your parent to school." The career day event was a spin on "Take your son/daughter to work." Nagel also talked about making good choices and told the students that police are good people here to help.

Kenneth J. Scholtes, 77, of Litchfield died Wednesday, April 16, at St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending with Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.


Ted Root, 81

Theodore William (Ruotsinoja) Root, 81, of Kingston, died April 8 at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
A memorial service is planned at noon Saturday, April 19, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingston with the Rev. Michael Nelson officiating.


Organic farm directory available

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has published its 2008 Directory of Minnesota Organic Farms.  The
directory lists more than 200 of Minnesota’s certified organic producers, organized both by county and by the type of organic crops, livestock, fruits, or vegetables produced.  No farm was listed without its permission.

Michael J. Maus, 46, of Duluth, formerly of Litchfield, died Thursday, April 10, at his home. A memorial service
will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at First Lutheran Church
in Litchfield, with the Rev. David Sorensen officiating. Visitation will one hour prior to the service at church Tuesday. Interment will be
in Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield.

 


Litchfield Airport to receive FAA grant

Litchfield Municipal Airport is among 14 airports around the state that will receive improvement grants from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., announced April 10 that the airports in Greater Minnesota will receive the funds to be used for various airport improvement projects, including safety upgrades, runway expansions and hangar construction.

Lance Bengtson, 51

Lance Bengtson, 51, of Spicer, died April 2 at his home. Funeral services were Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London.


Jean Dalbec, 64

Jean Dalbec, 64, of Waverly, died Monday at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday and will continue on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m., all at the church.

Bloodmobile visits Eden Valley, Litchfield

Eden Valley and Litchfield had bloodmobile visits recently, with 193 units of blood collected.

Eden Valley collected 81 units, exceeding its goal of 70 units, with two deferrals and six first-time donors. Litchfield set a goal of 75 units for its “O” draw on March 27 and wound up with 60 units collected, five deferrals and two first-time donors. The March 28 regular draw in Litchfield saw 52 units collected, three deferrals and three first-time donors.

The bloodmobile will visit Dassel, Watkins and Litchfield from May 27-30.


Milbourne Leske, 75

Milbourne Leske, 75, of Hutchinson, Minn., died March 29 at the Lakeview Ranch in rural Darwin. Funeral services were Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Acoma Township, McLeod County, Minn.


Samuel Prieve, 64

Samuel Prieve, 64, of Humansville, MO (formerly of Dassel and Hutchinson) died March 16 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. May 22 at Lake Jennie Covenant Church in Dassel, MN.


ACGC approves teachers contract

After more than seven months of negotiations, the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City School Board and the teachers’ union approved an agreement for the 2007-2009 school years.

The two-year contract gives teachers a 0.8 percent increase in salary the first year and a 1.2 percent salary increase in the second year.

“I think that shows the staff’s willingness to do what’s best for the district,” said Mike McNab, teacher and union negotiator.


Greenleaf Recreation Area meeting rescheduled

The Greenleaf State Recreation Area citizens advisory committee will meet Monday, April  7, in the basement meeting room of Meeker County Courthouse.

The meeting, originally scheduled for Monday but postponed due to the late winter snowstorm that blew through the area, will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
