To stop the train whistles

To stop the train whistles would by extreamly hard on the train crew. You probably have never sat in the cab of an engine running through a town at 35 MPH knowing that anything that gets in your way will be distroyed as you can't stop for miles. I was a fireman on a steam engine in the early 50's and I know the feeling of anxiety and helplesness. The whistle being your only defence. I think we can stand a little whistle noise.

Very bad Idea. Some people are upset over the noise... well I would rather tolerate the whistle than sound of metal crunching from a train and vehical colliding and the trains breaks squealing stop because they hit an unsuspecting bystander.

I think that is a bad idea. Isn't it the law with the federal railroad administration that a train has to blow it's whistles before each intersection to let people and other trains know that this train is crossing? And if a quit zone was passed, and someone got hurt by a train crossing, they would easly be able to sue the city.

Citizen
A buyer came forth

Citizen
A buyer came forth for the building but the city said no. Other buyers also inquired about purchase and were told " they had to make in into an opera house again, or that the city had decided to tear it down (not true at that time). We would put our money where our mouths are. There are many places worthy of being kept. Did you know they were going to tear down the building the Declaration of Independence was signed in, the Statute of Liberty was falling down, the great battelfields of the Civil War were being sold as housing developments, and on and on because of people like you. Thank goodness there are people out there who really understand the inportance of our heritage. We must be very diligent or some day we will wake up to nothing but parking lots and children who exterminate the elderly because they are not worth anything.

enough is enough, tear the opera house down. I fail to see the historic value of the building. It certainly has less value than any of the older churches, the huge farm yard barns or the blacksmith shop which is nearly directly accross the street. The building is ugly and a money pit of huge proportions. The city of Litchfield has already spent over $200,000 purchasing alternative land for which to build the city hall so some pushy citizens and council members can buy time to save the building, to no avail. If you feel that strongly that the building must be saved, great, buy it with your money and save it, do not spend my money on the money pit

That's a good suggestion and hopefully one that will be considered. I'm more concerned, however, with playoff games. The World Series now goes into the last days of October when we often see below freezing nighttime temperatures and the occasional snow shower. Those could be miserable conditions to play such important games, and I doubt FOX would consider day games, especially for the World Series. That's baseball biggest TV ratings.

A Twins player said on TV

A Twins player said on TV this week that he talked to some of the old-time Twins players. They said early and late season games used to be played during the day because the temp outside dropped too much at night. I wonder if they can schedule day games or away games for the early spring part of the schedule?
