This is an ode to our fast disappearing summer.
It might be hard to believe, but just a week ago, sunny skies and 80 degree temps were the norm. Since then, the weather has taken a downward slide. And I'm not happy about it.
I'm sure I join many of us lamenting the apparent disappearance of summer as 60s have replaced our warm, lazy days of August. Instead of shorts and t-shirts, I'm wearing long pants and shoes that cover my toes. I forgot I even owned shoes that cover my toes. My windows had to be shut at night. This morning I actually turned my car vent to warm, and on Sunday, there was even talk about turning the furnace on. (Don't worry, we didn't.)
I've been a Minnesotan long enough to know this isn't the end of summer. Warm days will return, perhaps even into the early part of October. But the cool weather is having a dismal effect on me as I realize that our beautiful summer is gradually coming to an end, being replaced by the long dreary season of naked trees. Ahhhh, I sure wish it was June again.
