Seahawks have been seeking tight end

The Seattle Seahawks have had a hard time finding the right tight end to fit Mike Holmgren's West Coast offense.

John Carlson may be their long-awaited answer.

Carlson, taken with the seventh pick of the second round during Saturday's NFL Draft, was considered by many analysts as the best all-around tight end.

That will come in handy in Seattle, where its best all-around tight end is Jeb Putzier, who has 96 career catches in six seasons with Denver and Houston.

Will Heller, a five-year veteran journey man, has just 32 catches in 58 games and is more well known for his blocking.

building

Does anyone know what they are building between Home State Bank and Meeker Cooperative??

Interesting offseason awaits Wild

The better team (Colorado) – and by far the better goaltender (Jose Theodore) – won the Colorado/Minnesota Wild playoff series.

Minnesota never scored more than two goals in regulation in any of the six games. That type of offensive output won't get it done, unless you're defense and goaltending are elite.

Now the Wild has some interesting things to decide in the offseason.

Is coach Jacques Lemaire coming back?

Do you extend Marian Gaborik's contract? Or trade him?

Do you keep wingers Pavol Demitra or Brian Rolston?

Troops come home, or did they?

As a 20+ year veteran of the military, I was disappointed when I received my May 1 circulation of the IR. Some great things happened this past week in Litchfield. The troops came hope safe after 11 months, and a local boy was drafted by an NFL team. But if you read this weeks paper, you would probably know of only one of these events.

What Guinness World Record would you set?

Jaime Liestman of Reflection Farm is nominating a 17-year-old miniature horse, named Dakota, for the Guinness World Records for longest miniature horse tail. Dakota's tail was measured at 8 feet, 6 inches last week. See "A true tale about a long tail."

If you had a chance to make or break a world record, what record would you like to be known for?

Best April Fools' Jokes

According to the The Almanac Companion, a newsletter from the publisher of "The Old Farmer’s Almanac," the origin of April Fools' Day could go back to 16th-century France:

"At that time, New Year’s Day was March 25, with a full week of partying and exchanging gifts lasting until April 1. In 1582, the Gregorian calendar moved New Year’s Day back to January 1. Those who forgot or refused to honor the new calendar were the butts of jokes and ridicule."

What's the best April Fools' prank you've ever pulled?
