AnnouncementsLitchfield mail carriers will collect food to Stamp Out HungerMay 8, 2008 - 4:42pm — Kristin HoltzLitchfield Post Office and the National Association of Letter carriers will have their annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive this Saturday. To participate, Litchfield residents simply need to leave nonperishable food and home care items in a bag by their mailbox. Letter carriers will pick up the bags and at the end of the day will deliver them to the Meeker County Emergency Food Shelf. Postal customers can buy the Forever Stamp for 41 cents through Sunday, which can be used for mailing one-ounce, First-Class letters anytime in the future — regardless of future price changes. However, on Monday, the cost of the Forever Stamp and other first-class postage will increase by 1 cent, from 41 cents to 42 cents. Read more by clicking here.

The initial round of weekly payments will be completed by early July. Stimulus payments will be made by direct deposit to people who choose to receive their 2007 income tax refunds through direct deposit. All others will receive their economic stimulus payments in the form of a paper check. Night closures are planned for Highway 12 at Willow Road to County Road 6 in Orono for Monday, March 10, and Tuesday March 11, as construction crews set beams for the new county road bridge over Highway 12. The closures will occur from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. overnight Monday and Tuesday. A detour will be posted. Clocks spring forward from 1:59 a.m. to 3 a.m. Daylight Saving Time is intended to make the best use of daylight by moving an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. Proponents say the plan saves energy during the summer by trimming use of lighting and small appliances, especially during the peak hours of late afternoon, early evening. Other studies have suggested it also helps cut down on motor vehicle accidents. |
